Salisbury Livestock Market is a modern purpose built facility, incorporating penning for up to 700 Cattle and 2,000 Sheep along with the Market Canteen, Offices and Salerooms, all housed under one roof.
The 'New' Market was officially opened on 2nd January 1996 by the Earl of Radnor and on this day 272 Barren Cows and 121 Finished Cattle were sold. Just twelve weeks later on 26th March, following the Government announcement on BSE, we had 1 Barren Cow and no Finished Cattle.
Ten Years later, when the OTM scheme finished, and following a year of closure in 2001 due to Foot and Mouth, Cattle prices were still at a much lower level than those seen when the Market opened.
We are therefore very pleased to have survived this period and with a second lease now in place, we look forward to serving the Farmers of the South of England and beyond for many years to come.
